National School Pride Project

Malvern Valley has been successful in getting  National School Pride funding from the Australian Goverrnment to

  • Add some shading along the northern side of the classrooms
    • to reduce heat and glare  while also reducing our footprint on the world. Northern side of the school in full sunlight
    • Before the project began on 1st May 2009. 
    • The sunshine hits the northern windows all year long making the classrooms difficult to work in due to the glare and heat. 
    • The Grade 5/6 Unit 

    The area outside the classroom is difficult to use as an outdoor learning area as it is too hot and unprotected.   

     

     

     

     

    Provide shelter over the external bike racks. 

      • Our Active Travel program means that our bike shed is overflowing  Bikes, Bikes, Bikes but no sheltermost days even on wet days. 

       

      • Before the project begins, 1st May 2009
      • Make it safer to come through the front gate and to play on our school oval.
      • Through harvesting  water, storing it in a tank on the oval and linking it to the oval irrigation system we hope to keep the oval green and softer to use for Physical Education and general play.2008 Twilight Sports on our School Oval

      Without the ability to irrigate,  the grass  dies and the oval becomes a hard surface with lots of trip hazards.
